At Cloverdale Dental Group in Etobicoke, our dentists offer dental sedation options to make patients more comfortable during long procedures and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
In dental sedation, we use a number of techniques to ensure patients feel more comfortable during dental appointments. Our dentists can help you decide if a dental sedation option is right for you.
At Cloverdale Dental Group, we try to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during dental procedures. In addition to offering options for sedation, we work at your pace, take breaks when necessary and provide calm reassurance as required.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Inhaled through the mouth and nose, nitrous oxide tends to lessen anxiety, reduce gag reflex, increase pain threshold and make time seem to pass more quickly. Though patients remain awake and able to communicate, this medication has a calming effect.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in pill or liquid form. Taken orally before a dental appointment, the medication leaves you awake for a procedure though it calms you so that you feel significantly relaxed.
IV Sedation
Administered directly into the bloodstream, IV sedatives offer the deepest level of sedation possible without general anesthesia. You'll be attached to a monitor so that the dentist will be able to track your vital signs during the procedure. The dentist can continually adjust the level of sedation.
General Anesthesia
When your dentist provides general anesthesia, you'll be kept in a controlled state of unconsciousness. Your awareness, discomfort and movement will be eliminated during treatment. This allows your dentist to complete complex treatments while you sleep, sometimes in one appointment.
