Could you be one of the 9 out of every 10 people world-wide who suffer from periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease is an infection affecting the gums and jaw bone. It is primarily caused by the bacteria in plaque.
Periodontal disease is usually painless. It is important to know the signs of its progressive stages. When Healthy, gums are pink, do not bleed and are firmly supported by teeth and bone. The earliest stage of gum disease is Gingivitis. Gums may be red, tender and swollen and may bleed when brushed, flossed or examined. The next stage, Moderate Periodontitis, occurs when gums begin to separate from the teeth. Gums may develop abscesses and tooth roots are exposed to plaque. Bad breath and a bad taste in the mouth are common. With Advanced Periodontitis, the bone supporting teeth is destroyed. Teeth will become loose and eventually need replacement. Prevention is the best method of treatment, and fortunately, periodontal disease can be treated at all stages. If you have any questions about Periodontal disease, speak to one of the Cloverdale Dental team members today!

The temporomandibular joint or jaw joint allows you to open and close your mouth, speak, swallow and chew food. Dysfunction of the joint may result in symptoms like clicking and popping sounds, headaches, neck and facial pain, locking of the jaw and ringing in the ears. The TM joints are part of a large group of muscles, ligaments and bones that work together as a system. Because of this complex system a problem in one area can cause symptoms elsewhere. Many things can trigger TMJ disorder, such as trauma to the face, whiplash, bad posture, uneven bite (malocclusion) the teeth not being able to properly support the jaw. This can occur from missing teeth, misaligned teeth, or back teeth that are too short. When this condition is prolonged, the body begins to compensate by involving muscles in other areas the neck, throat, upper and lower back, arms, etc. If you suffer from head, neck, or facial pain, Cloverdale Dental in Etobicoke can help to relieve symptoms and restore optimum function. If you have any questions about your temporomandibular joint or the disorder, speak to one of the Cloverdale Dental team members today!

CROWNS & BRIDGES
What are the benefits of crowns from a cosmetic and health point of view? A crown can be utilized to repair a chipped or fractured tooth! A crown is by far the best way to protect a weak or badly decayed tooth. A crown is also a very good way to cover a single or number of teeth that are stained or have become yellow due to tetracyline, coffee, tea, or other harsh staining properties! Crowns are a great way to correct crooked or misaligned teeth! Crowns are extremely strong, and they are much more permanent solution than whitening, bonding or even veneers! If you'd like to know if crowns are appropriate for you, please speak to one of the Cloverdale Dental team members today for more information on crowns.
Why is it important to replace a missing tooth? It not only improves the look of your smile, but also contributes to better dental health. Each tooth has its own important role. Some are used for biting or chewing, others give shape to your face. The support that your teeth provide for each other is compromised when one is missing. Before long, evidence of breakdown is noticed in the remaining teeth, the jaw joint and/or the gums. The use of a bridge, or 'artificial tooth' can prevent these problems. Talk with any of our team members today for more information on bridges.
Old, unsightly mercury alloy fillings can be removed and replaced. Porcelain restorations can hold and strengthen your tooth structure as mercury fillings often crack and break teeth because they are not bonded to the surrounding tooth structure. Porcelain fillings are also used in lieu of crowns because they keep the natural shape and form of the tooth. Porcelain fillings offer patients metal-free dentistry, which allows light to flow through and reflect off the teeth, leaving a more natural smile. If you would like to remove your unsightly amalgam fillings, speak with one of our Cloverdale Dental team members today!
As we age, we expect our appearance to change. Teeth will darken, lips will sag, gums will recede and teeth may need to be replaced. Not anymore! You don’t have to have an aging smile. In addition to preventing some of the effects of aging through excellent oral hygiene and frequent dental visits, we can even reverse some of the signs once they have occurred! Laminate Veneers, Tooth Whitening and Bonding are three easy, relatively inexpensive ways to regain the youthfulness of your smile. So don’t let an aging smile add unwanted years to your appearance. Talk to one of our doctors today!
We would like to let you know about something exciting in our office! Advances in dental technology have afforded the Cloverdale Dental team here in Etobicoke the opportunity to bring you cutting edge dentistry in the form of digital radiography. Digital radiography is the ability to take xrays with minimal exposure time allowing them to be scanned into the computer. The images of your teeth, supporting bone and gums are large and crisp and are stored in your file for future reference. Digital radiography is Faster, Safer and environmentally friendly. Ask one of the Cloverdale Dental team members how this new technology allows us to bring patient care to the next level.
Dull Continuous Ache Non-emergency A dull continuous ache is not considered a dental emergency or urgent. However, a toothache should not be ignored because it generally means there is something irritating the nerve root of the tooth. Schedule a dental appointment at your earliest convenience.

Temporary Crown comes off
You have just had your tooth prepared for a new crown. However, the temporary crown has come off. Keep the tooth as clean as possible and contact the office to have it re-cemented.
Do not attempt to repair your denture on your own, as you could cause additional damage to the denture or your mouth. Call us for an appointment, or a referral to a denturist.
Sensitivity to Hot or Cold
Sensitivity to either hot or cold could be caused for various reasons. It could indicate an infection. Call for an appointment as soon as possible.
A fractured tooth may be a dental emergency depending on the degree of fracture and pain to the area. If the fracture is severe you should seek emergency treatment. If the fracture is more of a chip, keep the area as clean as possible until an appointment can be arranged.
If you are experiencing sudden, severe discomfort, accompanied by swelling, there may be an infection in your mouth. If an infection is present, your dentist will likely prescribe antibiotics right away before attempting to perform root canal therapy or other restorative procedures.
If an abscess is present, a localized pus formation might be seen at the root end of the tooth. If the condition is acute and there is an infection present, your dentist will likely prescribe antibiotics prior to attempting any further treatment.
Knocked Out Tooth
If your tooth is knocked out, control the bleeding by applying direct pressure with a cold compress. Recover the tooth that has been knocked out (without touching the root) and very gently place it back in the socket. It is possible to re-implant the tooth within 30 minutes of being knocked out. If you are uncomfortable with this, or if you see debris on the root surface, place your tooth in a glass of cold milk and bring it to your dental office immediately.
A facial fracture is an injury that results in broken bones to the face.
Immediately go to the emergency room at your nearest hospital.
Dentures are probably the most common way world wide to replace missing teeth especially when a patient is missing many teeth. They are an affordable removable prosthetic that can be worn relatively easily by the patient. In addition, dentures are the most affordable, especially when compared with other alternatives such as dental fixed bridgework or implant-supported restorations. Please feel free to speak to one of the Cloverdale Dental team members today for more details, and get ready to smile!

Visiting the dentist - not my favourite thing to do. But I needed a couple of crowns and
Dr. Stern was incredibly patient with high sensitivity requirements. Everyone at Cloverdale Dental works as a team and
made me feel like I was at home.
New Client of the Dental clinic - was a little worried because I did not know what to expect. However I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are very helpful and my new Dentist Dr. Kevin Patterson was so kind, compassionate and very professional. Took the time to explain every procedure he was doing.. Everything a dentist should be. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
I have been a client of CDG since 1985. Every appointment has been a pleasant experience. The staff are always friendly and helpful. There have been changes recently with the retirements etc of some dentists but I am getting to know the new staff and I find them as friendly and as helpful as those who have moved on to their next life phase. I would recommend Cloverdale Dental Group to anyone.
I've been going to Cloverdale for more than 20 years, and they have consistently been both professional and exceedingly competent. The staff are friendly and the magazines are current; what more could you ask for?
I travel from the north end of Brampton but it is worth the drive. All of the staff are very friendly and it is evident from the moment you walk in the office that they love their work. Dr. Kevin and Pam have been taking care of me for years. I would never consider going anywhere else.
Dr. Cohen is an awesome dentist, one I can heartily recommend in this case for children. Everything is explained CLEARLY in advance. There were no shocking surprises at the desk when the bill was printed out, unlike other dentist.
I have had major anxiety issues over the past years and the staff and Dr. K. have made me feel so comfortable. I can't imagine going anywhere else. :)
A fantastic group of seasoned professionals. Always a joy to visit and feel comfortable knowing I am in great hands with skilled experts who care about the dental well-being of their patients.
